  2. i agree. best chinese takeaway in brighton, frankly. incredibly tasty – i recommend the duck in any form, though we’ve tried a few different dishes and found them all delicious. and the delivery is ridiculously fast. really impressed.

  6. Me and my partner eat an awful lot of chinese takeaway and New Lotus is the best one we have found. The delivery is usually super fast as well, sometimes just over ten minutes (though they always quote 45 minutes on the phone). Their chicken and sweetcorn soup and black bean dishes are particularly good.

  8. My pet gebil Frank ordered a take-away after downing 12 pints of mild in the local pub and he said the food was some of the best he had ever eaten. However, he was a little upset the sweet and sour prawn balls were a touch on the hard side. He also said the prices were on the high side, maybe to pay towards the owners new Lotus! Daft gerbil.

  10. A cats brown eye is more hygenic than this place.

We should have walked away as soon as we walked inside the place, looked more like a squat than a food retailer. Very dirty place, caught a glimpse of the very dirty kitchen too.

2 of us had a real dodgy stomach after this for dinner yesterday too.

Crispy Chilli Beef was nice but everything else we ordered (set menu 1B I think) was pretty poor quality.

    Avoid Avoid AVOID!

  14. born and bred in Brighton, this Chinese has consistently won out over any other take away for me.Even though, after 30 yrs, it must have changed hands several times over.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place.
I bow to the wise Gerbil, but would add that, knowing I am going to get a decent meal, I am happy to pay there slightly higher ( but good value ) prices….. and crispy batter is good for a gerbils teeth ; )

  18. My pet gerbil Frank (also now known as ‘the wise gerbil’) revisted the New Lotus after last eating their back in January. He said the set menu for one was superb and went down well after the half bottle of Blue Nun he had just drunk in the local wine bar. He said he will visit again in the near future, as he wants to try the shredded duck and chicken with black bean sauce.

  22. My pet gerbil Frank says the person above should get a life. You are ordering from a takeaway, not the bloody Ritz. Anyway, the sweet and sour dogs balls, I mean chicken balls are fine and not horrible at all.

  26. Appalling.
I made clear instructions to the person who took my order not to ring the doorbell because I had children sleeping, delivery driver hammers on door and then had extremely poor english when I asked why he had not rung.
I then called the restaurant to complain and the person on the other end didnt care.
To add insult to injury the food was very average and definitely below par for the price compared to other takeaways in brighton.
    Order at your peril.

  28. Maybe you should have ordered from an English takeaway bloody foreigners delivering food whatever next .

  30. LOL! Ordering food from a Chinese restaurant and a bloody foreigner delivers it! And to make matters worse you ask them not to ring the doorbell and they knock on the door instead! It’s exactly this sort of thing that makes you want to vote UKIP.

Have ordered from here 5 times before and as ever it was excellent. Not sure what the problem is with the haters bordering on the somewhat racist but the food was just great. Best Chinese I’ve had in Brighton and miles better than Gars in town that charges twice the price.
